LABEL DRESS
The Label Dress by [1/1]™ features thousands of reclaimed vintage labels. We are going to find out how it came to be and why it is a heavy statement in a fashion-landscape, that took the wrong turn.
Fashion is in a vulnerable state, as huge corporations take over the house-hold names of luxury clothing-manufacturing. But how can we get out of this mess?
”I think the democratization of fashion plays a huge role” says Koemas™ from [1/1]™.
His goal is to give out his blueprints of sustainable conceptions in form of unique upcycled and repurposed wearable artworks.
Via the member archive there will be a page dedicated to each concept in particular and how they are made.
However, upcycling and recycling can also mean not working on waste reduction, instead creating more issues on the way. That’s why we focus on conceptions that are seamless as our collection0 tailored garments are.
If you have ever made clothing, you are aware of the biggest problem in clothing production:
Every year across the world we produce 92 million tonnes of textile waste. Unless big changes happen and improve how we make, use, and dispose of clothes, it’s estimated that by 2030 we’ll create 134 million tonnes of textile waste globally. And the global fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
According to businesswaste.co.uk^^
THE PROBLEMS OF RECYCLING ARE EVIDENT;
RECYCLING SHORTENS THE FIBERS AND IS EXTREMELY LABOR INTENSIVE.
That is where repurposing comes handy:
Recycling clothes comes with many difficulties, as the label of garments are mostly made out of polyester and cannot be shredded with the rest of the cotton.
This is where only the artistic and abstract approach can give meaning and this is what AI is never going to be able to replace;
[OUR UNIQUE AND DISTINCT TASTE]
That is where repurposing comes handy. Labels cannot be recycled, they can only be repurposed. And they have extreme significance when it comes to communicating to the consumer.
